Last month it was reported that the air traffic control tower at Gabreski Airport was due to be shut because of sequestration. Fortunately, the tower has been spared along with two dozen others that are fully funded by the federal government. 149 other towers across the country will be closed because the FAA has to trim $600 million from its budget this year. The Air National Guard 106th Rescue Wing is based at Gabreski, which meant it was spared being shuttered after all.
