Montauk Beach House Bar Ruling Challenged

New, 19 comments

The Montauk Beach House may have successfully challenged a ruling last July by East Hampton Town's building inspector that its poolside bar, which serves the general public as well as guests, violated local planning laws.

At the town Zoning Board of Appeals hearing last week, the Beach House's lawyer cited two state Appellate Court decisions that support the resort's ability to serve liquor to non-guests. The Ronjo, the late and unlamented motel formerly on the South Elmwood site, predated the current town code, so the Beach House does not have to conform to area zoning. The ZBA is expected to render a decision within the next 62 days.
