More 2013 Listings We Won't Soon Forget

New, 1 comment

It's time to make up a bunch of awards and hand them out to the most deserving people, places and things in the worlds of Hamptons real estate, architecture, and dining. That's right, it's time for the Third Annual Curbed Awards! Today's topic: more 2013 listings that stood out from the rest.

House-Devouring Trees in Sag Harbor
When Photoshop goes wrong, it often goes very, very wrong.

When a house needs more curb appeal, when the grounds don't look lovely and verdant enough, what's an agent to do? Advise the homeowner to call Marders and order some full-grown trees? That costs money, folks. Just Photoshop those bad boys in! Nope, don't bother doing a good job. Still on the market? No

Christmas in August in East Quogue
Hey, this summer rental finally feels seasonal! We'd advise you to snap it up, but sadly it's no longer available.

Ho ho ho, merry August! Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but this snowman is so delightful, so as much as this rental blows, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Four bedroom, 2.5 bath East Quogue house with pool and basketball court for $14,000 in August. (Apparently also listed on MLSLI!) OK, throw in some candy canes and we'll call it a deal. Still on the market: No.

Taxidermy in Bridgehampton
The decor in this house could best be described as "bordello meets big game hunter." The new listing for the property advises that it's for a buyer who doesn't want a "cookie cutter Hamptons house." And how!

We're sure there is a very nice house in Bridgehampton under the pieces of dead animals littered everywhere. (Psst—tusks are bad form these days.) The pictured bathroom is nice, but the master bedroom seems to be decorated in a style called "Belle Watling." Right this way, Cap'n Butler! The listing refers to the house's "European style," a phrase we're beginning to believe is brokerbabble for "we don't know how to explain this mess either." If you can get past the dead animals, this is a three-bedroom, three-bath house of 2000sf set on .66 acre. Price is $1.495M. The grounds look nice, with a 70 foot gunite pool. Here's a phrase we'd like to suggest: "home staging." Still on the market: Yes
Price now: $1.595M, a Priceupper of 100K.
