We have to say that with the lighted crosswalks on Main Street in East Hampton, fewer idiot drivers completely ignore pedestrian crossings than they used to. The illuminated crosswalks at Huntting Lane and the Circle definitely help alert motorists that people are trying to cross. East Hampton has been planning to put a similar crosswalk on Newtown Lane, and has just been awarded a $37,000 grant by the Suffolk County Legislature to do so; the village will match the funds to complete the work.
