Critics of the planned new senior development at 555 Montauk Highway in Amagansett, formerly a farm, say that the town board's majority fast-tracked hearings on zoning changes before they leave office at the end of the year. The 79 units on 24 acres proposed by the developers include 63 standalone houses for $1.5 million and up, and 16 apartments, of which eight, priced at $550,000, would be considered affordable. East Hampton's zoning code does not allow development that dense, so in order to allow the development, changes in the code must be approved. A hearing is planned for December 19. The developers, Putnam Bridge, did not attend last Monday's meeting of the Amagansett Citizens Advisory Committee as hoped.
