One Season Was Enough For The Peconic Bay Water Jitney

New, 11 comments

The Sag Harbor Express is reporting that the Peconic Bay Water Jitney has officially called it quits. While initial enthusiasm for the pedestrian ferry was high, it failed to produce the ridership necessary to make the numbers work. "Financially, it was certainly a bust," Hampton Jitney President Geoffrey Lynch told the Express. "Given that, we don't have any immediate plans to go forward with the service for 2013." Still, he remains optimistic that something like this could eventually work out here...with the right backing. According to Mr. Lynch, "What the service needs is someone who has the financial resources to handle the start up costs for the appropriate vessel and can handle a loss over multiple seasons."
