In what could be viewed as an apt metaphor for what's happening in Montauk these days, a small sinkhole in the parking lot of Chinatown II ended up partially swallowing a local East Hampton resident's car earlier this week. The reason for the accident remains unknown, but the most likely suspect is Monday's heavy rains weakening the ground where the incident occurred. While the property owners have already hired a contractor to fill the hole, East Hampton's senior building inspector said that's not enough and is "going to send the owners [of the property] a letter that they have to get to the bottom of it, no pun intended."
