In response to Suffolk County Department of Health Services' fun-killing demand that Shelter Island deem a trio of beaches unsuitable for swimming, the town posted the pictured sign at each of them. But since the language isn't as strong as "swimming prohibited," they might not be enough to satisfy the state's requirements. Shelter Island will just have to wait until some bureaucrats can come out and make a determination for themselves. Though, we suspect a few little signs aren't going to discourage anyone from jumping in, no matter what how forceful the wording. [SI Reporter]
