James B. Fairchild's eponymous store has been dealt a setback due to the less-than-amicable split between Mr. Fairchild and his soon-to-be-former wife of 17 years. Once set to open the Southampton boutique together, Mr. Fairchild is now accusing Whitney St. John of deliberately holding onto items?supposedly worth hundreds of thousands?he had acquired for sale. In a statement to the NY Post he said, "I am truly disappointed that Whitney has become so bitter in this situation. It is obvious that she does not want my store to succeed..." Nothing like a little public mudslinging to ensure your divorce goes from unfortunate to fodder for cocktail parties. [NY Post]
