SIGNS, SIGNS, EVERYWHERE A SIGN

New, 1 comment

Perhaps feeling a need to one-up East Hampton Village's forthcoming sign restrictions, the village of North Haven is considering banning them altogether. Yard sales posters, real estate ads, builder billboards?anything inside the Village's jurisidction?gone. The Board has been considering amending its code ever since a resident complained about a handmade address marker that popped up in December, but this is the first we're hearing of a move this extreme. "I'm not even sure a total prohibition on signs is permitted," according to the village's attorney, "I'll have look into it." Forgetting about the obvious First amendment issues for a moment, we're kind of in love with this idea. The thought of streets uncluttered with obnoxious sales pitches has a certain appeal, no?
