PropertyShark's Map Of Distressed Suffolk Properties, 2011

The fine folks over at PropertyShark just released a map that plots every distressed residential property (those in foreclosure or pre-foreclosure) in Suffolk County for 2011. While the sea of blue dots might seem like cause for alarm, the overall number is actually trending downward. Last year, there were 5,481 distressed properties, more than 50% less than 2009's high of 11,005. Not good, but a huge step in the right direction.

Perhaps most interesting about this little map?to us, at least?is the number of of $1M+ Hamptons properties that made the cut: 48 in total. While PropertyShark includes some towns west of the Shinnecock Canal, the pre-foreclosure home with the most left on its mortgage is firmly within Curbed Hamptons territory. In fact, it's made quite a few appearances here: The Resort At Mill Creek. You better believe they're hoping to find someone to rent the place this summer.

If you've got some time to kill this morning, do yourself a favor and dig around a little bit. If you find anything interesting, feel free to share it in the comments.
