East Hampton Committee To Tackle Coastal Erosion Issue

The East Hampton town board created a coastal erosion committee to see if common ground could be found on how to best handle it. While the decision to rebuild the beaches in Southampton came quickly following Hurricane Sandy, the issue is more complicated between East Hampton and Montauk. Not everyone?including the town's own Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan?favors rebuilding or allowing protective structures to be installed. However, losing oceanfront businesses would have serious economic consequences...especially out in Montauk. The preferred answer is to replenish, but unlike in Southampton, it's not clear who would shoulder the costs or how to go about doing that.
