After More Than Three Decades, Barrister's Set To Close

Looks like we've completed the hat trick for long-time area business shuttering their doors. The first to announce their closing was Georgica Creek Antiques. Pethampton followed just days later. Now, after 33 years of operation, Barrister's is packing in it. The Southampton Press is reporting that the Southampton mainstay is in contract after more than three years on the market. No word on the buyer?in-the-know folks are remaining tight lipped?but the current owner, Michael Ferran, said they'll most likely be opening another eatery in the space. An official closing date has yet to be announced (although we've heard rumblings that New Year's Eve will be the last hurrah).

While the news might be unwelcome to fans of the non-pretentious establishment, Mr. Ferran seems ready for a long-overdue break from the business. He told The Press, "I've been doing this for 34 years and I'm really tired of it. We spent just practically every minute of our lives here. I'm not going anywhere, but I'll miss my regular customers."
