With Hurricane Sandy fortunately behind us, areas on the East End are continuing to survey the extent of the damage and cleanup efforts all well underway. In East Hampton township, Montauk was hit especially hard. According to The East Hampton Star, the dunes at Ditch Plains as well as those separating the sound from Gosman's restaurant and seafood market are no more and "the foundations of motels from the Royal Atlantic west to the Ocean Surf, and the Ocean End were exposed, the buildings themselves undercut."
However, according to a blog post by Montauk resident David Ryan, life is returning to normal on "The End": "The power is back on. My family and our house are unharmed. ... All things considered, damage to our town is minimal. This afternoon, trick-or-treating took place downtown as usual."
