The man responsible for one of the grossest stories on Curbed Hamptons in 2011 is no longer facing disciplinary action. Readers will recall that East Hampton's Natural Resources Director, Larry Penny, was facing several charges, most notably for improperly storing remains in the basement of town offices. However, in a press release issued today, the town board said that it agreed to drop the charges after learning Mr. Penny had been planning his retirement prior to being put on unpaid leave. According to the release: "While the long-time employee has not submitted a letter of resignation, the Town Board is not interested in interfering with a timetable of Mr. Penny's choosing." As long as this means we never have to think about this story again, we applaud the decision. [27 East]
