The Village of Southampton has just passed a "pretty unique" law that requires all hedges to be trimmed at least once a year and anyone caught slacking could face a $1000 fine and be thrown into jail for two weeks. The goal with the law is to "prevent such hedges from becoming overgrown and unsightly" and residents packed into the village boardroom applauded the measure's passage. Too bad the Southampton post office isn't affected by this new law.
