Farmers' Markets

In an effort to bring healthy eating to homes that otherwise can't afford it, the Sag Harbor Farmers' Market is now accepting food stamps. “There’s a lot of popularity and buzz around the program throughout the nation. We thought: Let’s have it [here].” the market's co-manager, Ivo Tomasini, explained. While the weekly market has yet to serve a customer on the assistance program, Mr. Tomasini remains optimistic, "It takes time to be successful." Sadly, as noble as this idea is, we have a hard time believing it will ever take off. Processed food from a grocery store will always be cheaper than locally grown produce. [Sag Harbor Express]
