Nightmare On Elm Street

A Southampton Village Trustee has a novel approach to combatting headaches from noise, littering and public urination on Elm Street: buy one of the offending night spots. No, it's not 230 Elm that's for sale, but rather the building that operated as Southampton Social Club this summer. The trustee recommended buying the $4.6 million property with money from the Community Preservation Funds. It's no coincidence that a string of houses across the street are also on the market, as homeowners have said they are fed up with the nearby clubs. Montauk may get all the press, but residents of Southampton are dealing with quality of life issues of their own. [27 East]
