While Tropical Storm Irene was responsible for no human casualties in East Hampton, the same cannot be said for the fish at Multi Aquaculture Systems Inc (aka The Fish Farm). The farm lost about 1,000, year-old striped bass in the 40 minutes it took to hook up a generator after the storm knocked out power to their life support systems. “We really depend on the electric tremendously,” Dr. Robert Valenti, director of the facility, said. It took about 40 hours to fully restore power to the area. Echoing the feelings of many, Dr. Valenti stated, "[LIPA] really dropped the ball." [Previously, 27 East]
