Casino Update

There's yet another obstacle that might keep the Shinnecock Indian Nation from getting its hands on that sweet, sweet casino cash. And this one comes from an unlikely source: legislators that want to see gambling more widely legalized. Officials from struggling resort areas are hoping New York will consider allowing gambling in parts of the state, similar to what New Jersey did for Atlantic City in 1976. The problem (for the tribe, at least) is that more gambling options would make their casino less of a commodity. "It is on the table, but it is still unclear whether it has the support to move forward," State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. said.
