Caught Red Handed

In the Hamptons, it's generally hard to get away with stuff, so it's unclear why a Sag Harbor resident thought nobody would notice that she cleared a huge swath of protected marsh shrubs on the edge of her property that faces Otter Pond. Now that she's been caught, she faces "thousands of dollars in fines from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC)." If only she had waited until the hurricane to bust out the hedge trimmers, she probably would have gotten away with it. [Sag Harbor Express]
