Could Montauk's summer crowds be interested in taking a break from the surfing and the cocktails to enjoy a little museum about the village's Native American history? Lawrence Cooke sure thinks so and he's starting to raise money to create the Montauk Indian Museum where his (and other people's) collection of Montaukett artifacts will someday be displayed. He's already raised $1,000, but says he needs $499,000 more to expand a small cottage currently owned by the Montauk Historical Society. No time like the present to hold a fundraiser at the Surf Lodge. [East Hampton Star]
