What Are The Vegas Odds We'll Be Attacked By Sharks?

Last Saturday, a shark was spotted off of Cooper's Beach in Southampton and a concerned Curbed reader wants to know:

"What kind of sharks were spotted and, more importantly, why this hasn't been mentioned in any of the other local news agents? If we are seeing a rise in shark activity, I think it should be made well-known to the public." Our guess is that it was probably a basking shark, a lovable non-people-eating variety. Have any intel?
