Shelter Island has a new town emblem. The old seal was "a coarsely executed image of a Native American paddling a canoe. Its replacement follows the same general design but its execution is finer." Apparently, the town never had a town seal, so every emblem on the Island had "something different — different Indians, different canoes, different headdresses, different armbands." Now everyone will be using the same thing. Whew. [Shelter Island Reporter]
