Plovers Strike Again

New, 4 comments

Things haven't been the same since 2007 when a single pair of piping plovers were found to be nesting on the beach in East Hampton. Since the birds are endangered, the annual Fourth of July fireworks have been pushed to Labor Day every year since to give those precious critters plenty of time to get down to business. But those sparklers don't come cheap and, according to the East Hampton Star, "putting off the event to the end of the summer has been a put-off for many of the longtime supporters" and they're currently not even close to raising the tens of thousands of dollars required to put on the show this year. Get out your checkbooks...don't let the plovers win! [East Hampton Star]
