We remember driving by Bellhaus in Wainscott and thinking, "Who actually shops there?" Well, apparently nobody, because Shawn Bellhaus' aggressively expensive clothing boutique closed without a trace in the fall of 2009 and the site has been vacant ever since. But a new, not-so-luxurious tenant has just moved in: Sleepy's, the largest mattress retailer in the world. Here's hoping other vacant retail spaces in the Hamptons don't get similarly snatched by soulless chain behemoths.
