You just plunked down $13 million to take the keys to a Southampton mansion originally belonging to a Vanderbilt. Now what? Duh, commission Ferguson & Shamamian architects to add over 7,000 square feet of additional living space! On Southampton Patch, preservationist Sally Spanburgh runs through the expansion's journey through Southampton's review board, noting that the architects did a fine job of stating their case. Everything sailed through without a hitch! Spanburgh also notes that as part of the renovation, the "house will be lifted and given a new foundation"—a bold undertaking for a three-story fixer-upper. But that's reasonable since nothing about this renovation seems to be subtle anyway.
