What's the best way to draw attention away from Montauk's controversial 7-Eleven? Open another in Amagansett! According to the East Hampton Star, a construction worker at a commercial site on Montauk Highway in Amagansett let it slip that he and his crew were working on the build-out for a 7-Eleven. To make matters worse, he spilled the beans (slurpee?) to "the chairwoman of the hamlet's citizen advisory committee." And now everyone's talking about it! When questioned, the property's owner "did not confirm or deny the rumors, saying only that she would 'prefer to wait until the store opens' before discussing the project." Sounds like a diplomatic way of saying "Yes!", huh? Regardless of the owner's intentions, though, a senior building inspector for East Hampton confirms that a 7-Eleven "would be permitted" in this particular location.
