Persistence Pays Off For The Sale Of This Wainscott 5-Bedroom

After more than 5 years on the market, this 4000 sq. ft. home on Wainscott's Beach Lane found a buyer in the form of the "Schulman and Wallace Trust". And just how much did they pay? $8.25M...just $700K less than the original ask set way back in 2006.

Located about a half a mile from the ocean, the 1789 federal house was originally located in Massachusetts and slated for demolition until it was purchased and reassembled by noted preservationist and experts in American art and architecture. Saving as much as possible?posts and beams, floor boards, mantles and stairway?the home was enlarged to include formal living and dining rooms. The new iteration also includes a wall of French doors, five reassembled bedrooms, a finished lower level with service and staff areas, a heated gunite pool (whew!), a covered porch and a separate garage/pool house. All of this is set on 1.2 acres with views of farm fields, Wainscott Pond and the ocean.
