Curbed Cup 1st Round: (2) Montauk vs. (7) Bridgehampton

New, 4 comments

The Curbed Cup, our annual award to the Hamptons neighborhood of the year, is kicking off with 8 'hoods vying for the prestigious fake trophy. This week we'll have one matchup per day, and all the results and the full tourney bracket will be reviewed on Friday. Voting for each pairing ends in the wee hours the next morning. Let the eliminations commence!

We didn't think it was possible, but last year's runner-up, Montauk, seems to have gotten even more popular in 2011. The once-quiet hamlet has become a mecca for both summertime revelers and fall-fisherman alike. With the recent purchase of Salivar's, the rumored sale of Lenny's, and both the Ronjo Hotel and Shagwong on the market, "The End" is in a good position to take the cup. Just don't tell the Montauk Citizen's Advisory Committee...they've been known to make people cry.

What can we say about Bridgehampton...other than "That's where Kmart is"? Well, it's got The Hampton Classic, a broken window that took forever to fix, some pretty great restoration projects and is home to one of Curbed readers' least favorite restaurants. We hate to say it, but things aren't looking good for Bridge this year.
