The Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Roman Catholic Church was recently granted minor basilica status by Pope Benedict XVI, making it the 70th minor basilica in the US and the first in the Diocese of Rockville Center. "It’s an honor for the community and the parish and the people who took care of this church for over 100 years," said Monsignor Jeffrey Madley. Built in 1907 using extra marble from the construction of the New York Public Library, the church will now be called?following a ceremony this spring?the Basilica of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
