Closed For Business

The sagging economy and the encroachment of multinational corporations have claimed another victim in The Hamptons. After 25 years, Home, James! will no longer selling linens, tableware and speciality items from its East Hampton location. "It just came to a point, we just looked at the numbers and said we're beating our heads against a losing proposition," noted Josef Schreick, co-owner of the store, "if 70 percent of the stores are closed, you can't even walk around the stores and do some shopping." The owners will continue selling a wholesale line of products on the web and from their Atlanta showroom. "We had a great run," Mr. Schreick said. [27 East]
