Back That Thang Up

The long nightmare of whether permeable paved driveways will be allowed in shoreline area of Shelter Island continues. Concerns about the proposal were raised during a recent board meeting and necessitated it be sent back to the town's Water Advisory Committee for further consideration. The group wants to ensure that runoff from rainwater makes its way to the aquifer on which the island relies, but question some of the amendment's language. Ian McDonald, the local architect behind the proposed change, is getting frustrated with the delays. “How many times does it have to go back to committee," he asked the board. The answer is four, Ian. Four more times. [Shelter Island Reporter]
