No Ferries Allowed

After seven years, the case brought against East Hampton by Montauk's Viking Ferry has finally been closed. On Monday the Supreme Court chose not to review the case, upholding the Second Circuit Court of Appeals' 2010 decision which allows the town's ferry banning law to remain. While the Montauk group argued that the law was in violation of the Constitution's Commerce Clause, the appeals court felt that avoiding an increase in traffic and its associated problems outweighed any potential negative impact on interstate commerce. Visitors can now only access East Hampton by car, train, bus, bike, horse, motorcycle, plane, helicopter and boat. [EH Star]
