According to The East Hampton Star editorial, East Hampton's town board is looking to tighten control over citizen committees in the area. After the Montauk Citizens Advisory Committee (who else?) sent a letter to town justices regarding their continued problems with Surf Lodge, the board contacted lawyers in the hopes they'll be able to rein in the groups. Created to act as conduits between various neighborhoods and hamlets and the town board, the committees have often been at odds with the town. However, this particular administration seems particularly "antagonistic" towards the concerns and views of the groups. It's kind of silly for the board to think that getting lawyers involved will going to do anything but further strain the relationship. [EH Star]
