For the first time ever, the median sale price for homes in East Hampton is lower than Southampton. In data released by Suffolk Research Service, the first three quarters of 2011 saw prices in Southampton average $862,500 compared to East Hampton's $860,000. The shift can be attributed to the ever increasing popularity of areas like Sagaponack?recently named America's third most expensive zip code. "It's really pretty remarkable," noted SRS owner George Simpson. "Both towns are still ridiculously expensive," he did not add. [NY Post]
