Here Fishy, Fishy

Montauk's summer crowds may have cleared out, but from now until early November the hamlet plays host to a different type of visitor. As striped bass stop here to feed before heading south for the winter, designer sunglasses and beach wraps are replaced with fishing poles and tackle bags. "Montauk is ground zero if you’re a surf-caster," says Rob Mazzei. The former New York City cop has been camped out in the lighthouse lot for two months while he takes advantage of what's become known as the "fall run". If you're interested in joining the "gold rush", be forewarned: the sport shares little in common with Norman Rockwell's depictions...fights over fishing spots are known to break out. [NY Times]
