Houses lacking easily spotted numbers are a continuing problem for the Shelter Island Fire Department. In a message last week, fire department chief Daniel Rasmussen noted, "[W]e have had a number of calls where there was difficulty finding the house quickly due to [this problem]." While one would think that a house engulfed in flames and billowing smoke would be easily located, the combination of missing house numbers and sometimes-hard-to-find street signage often makes doing so incredibly difficult for East End emergency crews?not to mention pizza delivery guys.
