The debate over new accessory apartment laws in East Hampton, especially in the Springs, just won't die. And that's probably why an East Hampton councilwoman is ready to do something drastic, like just "exempt the hamlet of Springs from the law if legally possible." An interesting strategy. But perhaps the best way to deal with Springs' citizens' concerns about overcrowding and lax landlords, who apparently need "painful" reminders of how to (and how to not!) rent out apartments.
