Meanwhile, on The North Fork

For a group of soundfront residents, the North Fork has been anything but peaceful the past couple of weeks. According to homeowners, their stretch of Wading River beachfront has become overrun with campers, cars, and rowdy crowds—and the government won't do anything because the beaches are allegedly public. (The residents' federal lawsuit says otherwise.) In the past, "one homeowner would fire a rifle to scare off rowdy trespassers." Seems like an effective enough method. [NYPost]
