Hit the Books

After seven years and 35 Town Board appearances, the East Hampton Library has been officially denied permits for a "6,802-square-foot addition, which the library first applied for in 2003." But don't expect library reps to just let the Robert A.M. Stern-designed plan go to waste: If a public referendum passes, the library will "file suit in state Supreme Court to appeal" the Board's decision. And the basis for such a suit? Reps believe the denial has more to do with "'village politics' and exclusionary tactics" than with an "adverse environmental impact"—the Board's cited issue. [27 East; previously]
