There's a lot of weird stuff floating around at Ponquogue Beach in Hamptons Bays. Case in point: one beachgoer discovered a 10-inch, "intact" mortar, which had to be detonated by the Suffolk County Police Emergency Service. And to round the story off, another beachgoer "discovered a large portion of a spine washed up between the Ponquogue Beach pavilion and Road I." The Suffolk County medical examiner is still figuring out to who the spine originally belonged. Better spines than sharks! [SH Press]
