$19M Swan Cove House Still Standing, Still Pink

About three months ago, news broke that investment banker Peter J. Solomon planned to tear down the 1903 estate he purchased on Hook Pond for $19 million last summer. Despite the house's storied history, Solomon's plan met with little opposition from the village since the existing house violates all sorts of wetlands and emergency management regulations and the replacement, which will total 7,450-square-feet, is intended to mimic the original cottage. (Oddly enough, the new house still won't be up to code, but whatever.) So with the demolition's approval off and running, we were tickled pink to see the original house still standing. Perhaps the current owners wanted to squeeze at least one summer out of their $19 million teardown.
