Georgica Pondless

Because of March's intense rainstorms and flooding, Georgica Pond has been thrown out of whack. By early summer, the pond is usually deep enough to allow multiple boaters and fishermen to set up shop. This year, however, "there's nothing in it. Not a drop of water." Unfortunately, trustees can't close the pond's channel just yet—federal law dictates that they have to wait until the pond's plovers stop shacking up. Otherwise, says one trustee, they'll be thrown in jail. [EH Star]
