Beach Woes

The latest on the mad rush to bring Hamptons beaches, eroded by winter and spring storms, back up to playing shape by the time summer kicks in, via the Wall Street Journal: "[Last] week, crews were busy dumping up to 3,500 tons of sand on the dune at Shinnecock East County Park, a popular beach in Hampton Bays... Because environmental regulations prevent construction on the beaches of eastern Long Island after late April, unsightly sandbag barriers and other temporary patches will likely remain all summer."
