That sound you just heard? Our email inbox exploding from the above photos, which came via a Curbed tipster, who explains: "Went to see some friends over on Shelter Island last week and they showed us this construction that's happening on the east side of the island. Seems it's got the neighborhood in a bit of a tizzy. The builders/owners are a couple of city architects named Aferiat and Stamberg. Not sure if they're planning on moving in or just built it as a piece of advertising. It's surrounded, for the most part, by 100+ year old farmhouses and stands out, as one neighbor put it, 'like a turd in a punchbowl.' Other comments have been that it looks like a Jetsons kiddie daycare center. At any rate, we'll keep you posted as we hear more stories."
A Google search leads us to the website for Architects Stamberg & Aferiat, who are indeed behind the project. On their website, they confidently regard the structure as a "summer residence." From what planet these new residents hail remains to be determined.
