Montauk's Surf Lodge Gets A Rock & Roll Reprieve

New, 1 comment

After receiving three noise violations, the Surf Lodge was on the edge of losing its ability to rock. But after coming up with its own sound solution, the East Hampton Town Board has allowed the popular Montauk spot to keep its live outdoor music license for another season. Taking inspiration from the famous Hollywood Bowl, reps for the Surf Lodge have proposed building a portable band shell to keep the sound in check and to keep the neighbors happy around Fort Pond Bay. But while they're taking steps to remedy the situation, don't blame it all on the Surf Lodge! Reps for the club also wanted people to know that trains idling at the nearby station contribute to the noise pollution with their subwoofer and speaker-like sounds. Call it the Tweeter defense. Now that the noise is temporarily behind them, Surf Lodge takes on it's next issue: parking. Unless they institute some type of shuttle bus service, the town is threatening to ban parking on the road.
