Throwing Away Monet

We've done some absentminded things, but throwing a valuable Impressionist painting in the trash? Say it ain't Cezanne! That's what happened to a New York family who was transporting their collection of Impressionists from the Hamptons to their city apartment. After unpacking some of the paintings, the couple went out for the night, leaving the rest of the unboxing to their maid. Big mistake. They woke up the next morning to discover that the maid had accidentally thrown four of the pricey paintings in the garbage. Colin Quinn, director of Axa Art Insurance, chimes in with this understatement: “These are the ‘oops’ claims." [NYTimes]
