Sag Harbor favorite Beacon reveals plans to launch a new winter version of the restaurant in the latest issue of Edible East End. In a profile of owner David Loewenberg, whose Hamptons restaurant history is extensive, to say the least, he explains that the typically summer-focused restaurant plans to get back to basics with an off-season menu this year. Inspired by 'economics and ... intellectual curiosity', Loewenberg hopes get inventive and create a quieter atmosphere in the usually bustling warm-weather venue. Trying to be even more hands on, the 50 seat bistro setting of Beacon: Winter Version will benefit from the owner's constant presence and those elusive reservations, something forbidden during Beacon's busy summer nights. The Upper West Side native, who also runs Fresno in East Hampton and Red Bar Southampton, claims the new venture will be as down-home has eating at his Sag Harbor house.
