Off the Market: Matt Lauer Buys in Southampton, and More!

1) Today co-host Matt Lauer has settled on a new Hamptons home, paying the $2.15 million asking price for a Southampton waterfront this week. The three bedroom, two bath cottage is a petite 1,500 square feet, but has impressive views of a pond connected to Little Peconic Bay. The home was on the market with Sotheby's for about three months before Lauer made an offer. [WSJ]

2) The Madoff effect is in full swing: actress Tuesday Weld's Montauk home finally sold this week for near its $7.75 million asking price, just after it was profiled as one of the neighboring listings benefiting from the Bernie bonanza. The new owners are a 'finance family based in Manhattan' who seem to have gotten a relatively good deal - the home was pricechopped considerably from its first $9.9 million asking price. [NYP]
3) Speaking of Bernie, it seems that good ol' 216 Montauk Highway is a den of thievery. The caretaker of the (in contract) home reported a $100 white director's chair missing, just a week after a $300 rusty statue was lifted from the front porch. The chair was on the back porch, prompting the Feds to put everything not nailed down inside the house. [EH Star]
